She was born on 14 April 1981 in Cyprus. She completed her primary, secondary and high school education in Istanbul. She graduated from Bilkent University, Department of International Relations in 2003. She went to Italy for her master's degree and got her MBA at Politecnico di Milano University. After completing her master's degree, she gained work experience in Altınbaş Jewelery for 2 years and during this period she studied for 2 months in GIA gem evaluation academy in London. After she decided to continue her academic life, she started her PhD education in the Anthropology Department of Yeditepe University Institute of Social Sciences and completed her thesis titled arı Handmade Jewelery Masters in the Grand Bazaar, a Transformation Story’.
Married and mother of two daughters, Fatma Altınbaş is currently a doctoral lecturer at the Department of Sociology, Faculty of Social Sciences at Altınbaş University, where she continues to work on issues of culture, globalization, identity theories and popular culture, and serves as advisor to the board of trustees.
